World Mental Health Day is on October 10th of every year. The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is Increased investment in mental health. Research shows 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year and 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14. The average time between someone experiencing mental illness and then getting treatment is 11 years. 11 years is just too long to carry a burden by themselves. Mental health is just as important as physical health and should be equally discussed.
What can you personally do to invest in mental health? Take charge of your mental health starting today. Remember that you have control over your well living. Making healthy daily routines with your meals, exercise, and sleep can play a huge role to maintain a positive mental health. Like everything in life, be realistic and mindful of your needs and know your limits.
Mental health treatment like therapy, medication, and self-care have made recovery a reality for most people experiencing mental illness. Although taking the first steps can be confusing or difficult, itʼs important to start exploring options. For anything to work though, you need to be open to change.
As always, stay close to your support network and let others know they are not alone in caring about their mental health. Reach out to someone today to let them know they are not alone. 💛
